Reception to Dr. K. A. Manu
(A Brief Report)
The reception was arranged to honor Sri. K. A. Manu, who isolated an alkaloid namely ‘Punarnavine’, which is found very useful in the treatment of cancer. Mahatma Gandhi University awarded Ph. D. to Sri Manu in this connection.
Sri K. A. Manu, son of Kanjoor Manakkal Aryan Nampoothiri and Devaky Teacher, is now working in Singapore.
The reception was organized by the dedicative socio – cultural organization S N S Mannampetta in association with Sreedharapuram Nair Samajam, COST Sreedharapuram, Sreedharapuram Mahila Samajam and Sreedharapuram Citizens’ Forum at 4pm on 3rd July, 2010. Venue: Kanjoor Mana. The following is a brief report on of the above reception meeting.
The reception meeting began in the special auditorium set in front of Kanjoor Mana Premises at 4pm on 3rd July, 2010.
After the Prayer, Sri P. Sivadas Master (the Programme Co - ordinator) welcomed the respected guests and audience. He, in his speech, gave the details of Sri Manu’s research and achievements. He explained how Sri Manu succeeded in isolating the alkaloid Punarnavine from ‘Thazhuthama, medicinal plant common in Kerala’ and to what extend the alkaloid is useful in cancer treatment. It was for this achievement Sri Manu was awarded Ph. D. by Mahatma Gandhi University, said Sri P. Sivadas Master.
Sri Kollery Chandran Nair presided over the meeting. He, in his presidential address, expressed his happiness to participate in a function like that. He congratulated Manu for his achievement and honored him by offering ‘PONNATA’
Mangalapathram was read in the meeting by Sri P. Sivadas Master.
Representing different organizations, Sri Edat Viswanathan Nair (Secretary, COST Sreedharapuram), Sri P. Aravindakshan Nair (President, Sreedharapuram Nair Samajam), Sri E. Jayaraj (COST Sreedharapuram), Sri P. Narayanan Nair (SNS Mannmpetta), Sri Krishnappilla (Sreedharapuram Citizens’ Forum), Sri N. D. Sankaranarayanan Nampoothiri, Mrs. A. D. Parvathy Teacher (Ayurveda College, Thaikkattussery), Mrs. Sreedevi Hari, Mrs. Latha Teacher (Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur), Ms. Girija (State Bank of Travancore), Sri Aryan Nampoothiri, Mrs. Devaky Teacher, and Sri Dinesan expressed their felicitations and offered compliments to Dr. Manu.
Dr. Manu in his reply speech thanked everybody and explained his research and how his discovery was useful to the humanity.
Sri Jayakumar Edat (Treasurer, COST Sreedharapuram) expressed his heart-felt gratitude Dr. Manu and all others. With the National Anthem, the meeting came to an end. After the meeting there was a ‘Sneha virunnu’ also.
